Tate McRae releases ‘Tit for Tat’, a heartbreak track with lyrics that seem to point straight at her ex, The Kid LAROI.

Tate McRae has set social media alight with the release of ‘Tit for Tat’, her first original song since her high-profile split from The Kid LAROI. Currently in the middle of her sold-out Miss Possessive Tour, the 22-year-old artist seizes the moment with lyrics that leave little room for doubt.

“Thought I might love you again, I’ll see how I feel / Now that you’re acting like that, boy, I never will / Last night, she answered my call, it sealed the deal / Right now, I’m not even about you,” sings Tate in the chorus, hinting at a pointed response to her ex’s recent behaviour.

The expression “tit for tat”, which gives the track its name, is defined by the Merriam-Webster Dictionary as “an equivalent retaliation, a blow for a blow”. It’s hardly an innocent choice for a title, arriving just three weeks after The Kid LAROI dropped his own confessional breakup track.

Although neither has officially confirmed that their songs are directed at each other, fans have been quick to connect the dots and point out the similarities in their storytelling. ‘Tit for Tat’ plays as both an assertion of emotional independence and a sharp, elegant reply.

The track is now available on digital platforms and is likely to become one of the standout moments of Tate’s current tour. One thing is certain: the artist is back in full force, and she has no intention of holding back.
