Bottega Veneta celebrates 50 years of Intrecciato with Julianne Moore, Lauren Hutton, and Edward Buchanan as the leading figures in this tribute to craftsmanship.
Bottega Veneta marks the 50th anniversary of its iconic Intrecciato weave with ‘Craft is Our Language’, a campaign that brings together artisans and leading figures from film, music, art, and fashion. At the heart of this tribute is Julianne Moore, who lends her unique perspective and sensitivity to this homage to craftsmanship and the maison’s legacy.
First introduced in 1975, the Intrecciato is more than a technique—it is a language intrinsic to Bottega Veneta, shaped by hours of artisanal labour, heritage, and precision. Now, this legacy is brought to life through the lens of photographer Jack Davison and the choreography of Lenio Kaklea, turning gestures into silent narratives.
The project brings together prominent figures such as Julianne Moore, Shu Qi, Zadie Smith, Dave Free, I.N, Rie Miyazawa, Troy Kotsur, Edward Buchanan, and Lauren Hutton. Each contributor brings their discipline into dialogue with the Intrecciato, blending movement and material in short films and photographs where hands take centre stage. Moore, with her natural elegance, embodies the brand’s timeless essence, conveying the artistry of gesture and the emotional connection behind each piece.
Two key figures link Bottega Veneta’s past and present: Lauren Hutton, who immortalised an Intrecciato clutch in American Gigolo, and Edward Buchanan, the designer behind the house’s first ready-to-wear collections in the 1990s. Both appear in this celebration, evoking the evolving vision of luxury that defines the Italian brand.
In the short films, artisans are paired with collaborators such as Thanaerng, Terrance Lau, and Barbara Chase-Riboud, exploring the Intrecciato technique through movement, texture, and a dialogue between tradition and innovation.
The campaign is more than a visual celebration: in September, Bottega Veneta will publish a book featuring 50 gestures as part of a visual dictionary—each one tied to the craftsmanship and values that define the maison’s legacy. This initiative reaffirms the brand’s commitment to a form of luxury that prioritises technique, gesture, and soul over logos.

With ‘Craft is Our Language’, Bottega Veneta not only commemorates 50 years of the Intrecciato but also elevates its legacy by connecting generations and disciplines. At the centre of this conversation are artists like Julianne Moore, whose presence symbolises the perfect fusion of art, fashion, and humanity.
