Three years on, Jessie J has finally responded to Mel B’s televised insult, showing that time has a way of putting everything in its place.
Jessie J has at last broken her silence on one of the most awkward episodes in her media history: the day Mel B, former Spice Girl, branded her a “d—khead” during a TV interview back in 2022.
The “Price Tag” and “Bang Bang” singer was recently invited onto KISS FM’s Say It Or Shot It, where she was asked to comment on the now infamous remark. “On television, Mel B said I was a d—khead, just like that, out of nowhere,” Jessie explained, keeping her composure.
The incident dates back to Mel B’s appearance on Channel 4’s The Big Narstie Show, where, when asked to name three people she thought were “d—kheads”, she mentioned Jessie J, her bandmate Geri Halliwell, and presenter James Corden.
“And I was like: I’ve seen her once in my life,” Jessie added, recalling their only meeting at the Olympic Games. “We’ve never worked together. At the time I wanted to ask her why she said that, but then I thought: ‘You know what? That’s her opinion, and that’s that’.”
Curiously, it wasn’t the first time Mel B had taken a swipe at Jessie. In 2019, during an interview with Heart radio, she had already described her as “overrated”.
Now 37, Jessie J appears to have chosen the path of emotional maturity: no confrontation, no drama. “That’s what she thought, and that’s fine. I’ve got nothing to prove,” she stated on the radio show.
With a career that has weathered media highs and lows, international awards and a loyal global fan base, Jessie J once again shows she doesn’t need to enter into public spats to keep shining.
