Recently named People’s Sexiest Man Alive, Jonathan Bailey became the first openly gay man to receive the magazine’s coveted title. During the announcement on The Tonight Show, he expressed gratitude that, in 2025, the honour goes to someone who can celebrate what truly makes a man sexy — authenticity. Yet the question on everyone’s mind remains: is Jonathan Bailey single?
A subtle detail sparked plenty of chatter. While talking about his dog Benson — who also stars on the cover — Bailey referred to him as “our dog,” hinting that he might be sharing his life with someone. Naturally, speculation followed swiftly.
In his People interview, he described his idea of a perfect date: a walk, dinner, theatre, cinema, or even a night of Lego and pizza. For him, a relationship thrives on open communication, total transparency, and excitement for each other’s growth. His deal breakers? Lack of honesty, poor communication, and not enjoying life’s simple plans.
Bailey has never shied away from celebrating queer love. In 2019, he kissed his then-boyfriend James Ellis live on stage after winning an Olivier Award. They were spotted together again in London in 2021. By December 2023, he confirmed he was seeing “a lovely man” but maintained that privacy allows him to speak freely about his work and identity without feeling exposed.
And yet, in 2025, during Chicken Shop Date, came a surprising twist.
