Sophie Turner steps into the role of Lara Croft in the ‘Tomb Raider’ reboot for Prime Video, launching a new television chapter for one of the most influential icons in pop culture and video games.
The Tomb Raider universe is entering a new audiovisual era. Production has officially begun on the highly anticipated series reboot, with Sophie Turner taking on the iconic role of Lara Croft, one of the most enduring and recognisable characters in entertainment history. The series will stream exclusively on Prime Video, signalling a contemporary reimagining of the world’s most famous archaeologist-adventurer.
Turner joins a legacy of actresses who have defined the character on screen, following the cinematic portrayals by Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander. This new adaptation aims to delve deeper into Croft’s adventurous spirit, strategic intelligence and emotional complexity, reshaped for the language and pacing of modern serialized storytelling.

The cast features an impressive ensemble including Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, Martin Bobb-Semple, Jack Bannon, John Heffernan, Bill Paterson, Paterson Joseph, Sasha Luss, Juliette Motamed, Celia Imrie and August Wittgenstein, building a rich supporting world designed to expand the saga’s narrative scope.
At the creative helm is Phoebe Waller-Bridge, serving as creator, writer and executive producer, alongside Chad Hodge as co-showrunner. Direction is led by Jonathan van Tulleken, who also acts as executive producer. The series is backed by Crystal Dynamics and Amazon MGM Studios, reinforcing a strategic alliance between the video game industry and premium television.
Since its debut in 1996, Tomb Raider has built a cross-generational legacy spanning games, film and now television. Following the release of ‘Shadow of the Tomb Raider’ in 2018 and multiple remastered classics, the franchise is set to expand further with two upcoming titles: ‘Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis’ (2026) and ‘Tomb Raider: Catalyst’ (2027), underlining its long-term, multi-platform vision.
With this reboot, the saga aims to captivate a new generation without losing the essence that turned Lara Croft into a global icon: action, mystery, exploration and undeniable charisma. The return is officially underway—and Tomb Raider is once again poised to dominate the cultural conversation.
