The Olympic opening transformed San Siro Stadium into a cultural runway where Italian fashion met music, art and global spectacle.

The opening ceremony of the Milano–Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics made one thing clear: Italy understands sport as an extension of its cultural identity, with fashion emerging as one of the night’s most powerful narrative forces. Held at San Siro Stadium, with simultaneous events in Cortina, Livigno and Predazzo, the ceremony blended choreography, music and costume through a distinctly Italian lens.

The show opened with a balletic sequence inspired by classical sculpture, before a star turn by Mariah Carey, who performed in a shimmering, theatrical gown while delivering a bilingual set that included ‘Nel Blu Dipinto Di Blu’. One of the most emotional moments followed with a procession led by Vittoria Ceretti, as models dressed in red, white and green formed the Italian flag wearing creations by Giorgio Armani, paying tribute to the designer’s legacy and his role as official outfitter of the Italian national team.

Throughout the ceremony, tributes to Italian classical music alternated with contemporary dance numbers and surprise appearances, reinforcing a narrative built on harmony, heritage and modernity. The Parade of Nations once again turned attire into a cultural statement, with each delegation showcasing luxury labels tied to national identity.

Beyond sporting protocol, the opening ceremony confirmed Milano–Cortina 2026 as Games where fashion does not simply accompany the story — it leads it.
