The iconic photographer Annie Leibovitz steps in front of the lens for the first time in Givenchy’s summer campaign, marking a historic shift in her career.

At 76, the legendary American photographer Annie Leibovitz swaps roles to become the face of Givenchy’s latest summer campaign, creatively directed by Sarah Burton. Dressed in a cropped grey jumper and dark trousers, Leibovitz represents a conceptual opening for the French maison: a vision in which women of different generations and professions take centre stage in the visual narrative.

The campaign brings together figures such as Selena Forrest, Liu Wen, Kaia Gerber — a recurring presence in the Burton era — and sculptor Isabelle Albuquerque, known for her headless, human-scale figures modelled on her own body. The result is a collective portrait where art, fashion and individuality converge through a conscious female perspective.

The images were captured by photographer Collier Schorr, portraying the protagonists in a relaxed setting, marked by spontaneous gestures and knowing smiles. According to the house, Sarah Burton’s aim is to capture the energy, wit and shared enjoyment among women, blurring the boundaries between who is portrayed, who is modelling and who stands behind the camera.

Styling was overseen by Camilla Nickerson, with make-up by Diane Kendal and hair by Olivier Schawalder. Following previous campaigns featuring Rooney Mara and Paul Simonon, this latest chapter confirms that Givenchy is embracing a more inclusive and authorial narrative, where female identity is constructed through multiple perspectives.
