Ib Kamara steps down as Off-White creative director after four years as the brand reshapes its future through collaborations and a new commercial strategy.

Ib Kamara is leaving Off-White after four years at the creative helm of one of the brands that transformed the relationship between luxury and streetwear. The company confirmed his departure on 31 August 2026, opening a new period of uncertainty and transformation for the label founded by Virgil Abloh. For now, no successor has been announced and there is no runway show scheduled for the upcoming season.

Kamara’s arrival in 2022 came under exceptional circumstances. The designer took on creative responsibilities just months after Abloh’s death, facing the challenge of continuing a project whose identity was deeply connected to its founder’s personality and vision.

He was not, however, starting from scratch. Before joining Off-White, Kamara had worked closely with Abloh at Louis Vuitton, giving him first-hand knowledge of many of the cultural, visual and aesthetic codes that had turned the brand into an international phenomenon.

His mission was particularly complex: to respect Virgil Abloh’s legacy without turning Off-White into a simple reproduction of its past. Over the course of his four years at the house, Kamara attempted to develop his own creative language while preserving the brand’s connection to streetwear, music, art and contemporary culture.

The business environment did not make that process any easier. The rise of luxury streetwear, which had been fundamental to Off-White’s growth during the second half of the 2010s, began to lose some of its momentum as the global luxury market entered a period of slowdown.

These changes were accompanied by a significant corporate transformation. In September 2024, LVMH sold Off-White LLC to Bluestar Alliance, the New York-based brand management company whose portfolio includes names such as Scotch & Soda, Hurley and Bebe. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

LVMH had acquired a majority stake in Off-White in 2021, just months before Abloh’s death. Under Bluestar Alliance, the brand has begun exploring a broader commercial strategy, reducing parts of its physical retail presence while experimenting with new distribution channels and more accessible price points.

Kamara’s final runway show for the house took place in March 2026. Shortly afterwards, 10×10: Off-White Icons Reimagined was unveiled, a year-long collaborative project that places ten recognisable categories from the brand’s archive in the hands of ten different creatives.

Participants include Kid Cudi, A$AP Nast, Raul Lopez, Ava Nirui, Veneda Carter, Yuta Hosokawa, Guillermo Andrade, Renell Medrano, Stéphane Ashpool and Bafic. The initiative will continue until April 2027 and could offer some clues about the company’s future creative direction.

Rather than concentrating Off-White’s entire identity around a single designer, this model distributes creativity across different voices. It is a strategy that could allow the brand to experiment with new audiences and categories without necessarily searching for someone to fill the space left by Abloh.

Bluestar chief executive Joey Gabbay thanked Kamara for the energy and perspective he brought to the label during his tenure. The creative, meanwhile, described the past four years as an important learning experience and emphasised that Off-White should remain bigger than any single individual. The company has also left the door open to working with him again through future collaborations.
