Jennifer Lawrence confirms her return to The Hunger Games alongside Josh Hutcherson and Woody Harrelson, revealing details of their emotional reunion.
Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are returning to the world of The Hunger Games to reprise their iconic roles as Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark. After months of speculation among fans of the franchise, the actress has finally confirmed the news during an interview on the Call Her Daddy podcast, hosted by Alex Cooper.
The new film, ‘The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping’, is set to arrive in cinemas on 20 November 2026 and will also see the return of Woody Harrelson, who portrayed Haymitch Abernathy in the original films.
Jennifer Lawrence Reveals What It Was Like to Reunite with Josh Hutcherson
During the conversation, Jennifer Lawrence spoke emotionally about returning to the set and having the opportunity to work with her former co-stars once again.
“It was unbelievable. It was absolutely crazy because it was the same crew, the same camera operators and the same assistant director I’ve worked with so many times. And Josh and Woody were there. It was so emotional,” she explained.
The actress also opened up about her close relationship with Josh Hutcherson, revealing that the pair were practically inseparable during their reunion.
“Josh and I couldn’t even go to the bathroom without having our arms around each other. It was so beautiful. I’m really excited,” she confessed. There was also room for an amusing anecdote involving Woody Harrelson.

“And Woody obviously came through the window of my hotel room uninvited, because it wouldn’t have been the same otherwise,” she joked.
What Is The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping About?
The upcoming instalment temporarily moves away from Katniss’s story to explore the past of Haymitch Abernathy, who was just 16 years old when he was selected to compete in the 50th Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell.

For this edition, the Capitol doubles the number of tributes, forcing 48 young people to compete in an especially brutal tournament.
During the Games, Haymitch forms an alliance with Maysilee Donner, played by Mckenna Grace, while beginning to challenge the system controlled by President Snow, portrayed by Ralph Fiennes.
