Victoria Beckham betrayed her own fashion rules with these giant Yellow Croc Boots

In 2021, Victoria Beckham took a look at Justin Bieber’s lavender Crocs and said, “I’d rather die.”

That was possibly the last time Bieber sent Beckham a press gift from his fashion line, Drew House. But in recent years, even the most ruthless aesthetes have succumbed to the amphibious clog. Once beloved by garden center staff and nursing assistants, fashion designers like Demna have spent years rehabilitating the shoe’s public image to the point that even Beckham seems to have ignored her own fashion rules.

Last night, VB dipped her toes into a giant knee-high version of the controversial slip-on footwear. The enormous Croot is the latest creation from the brand MSCHF, famous for its meme-related creations, which have so far included grain-sized handbags, $76,000 “Birkin-stocks,” and Lil Nas X’s blood-infused Nike shoes. They are also the climax of a constant buildup of implausible summer shoes, which has seen Beckham photographed in peep-toe boots and fishnet pantaboots in recent months.

Perhaps the former Posh Spice has been observing the “Wrong Shoe Theorem” on TikTok. And given that Beckham’s footwear has historically been in service to saucer-sized sunglasses and tight black dresses, with each shoe an experiment in balance, this could explain her inclination towards the more unusual side of things. It’s all part of the mythology surrounding Beckham: the chic one who refuses to smile because it would be a disservice to the fashion community. But, as seen here and here, Beckham’s sense of humor is as defiant and self-critical as a giant yellow Croot.
