Balmain appoints Antonin Tron as its new creative director. The French designer, founder of Atlein, will lead the brand’s next creative era from 2026.

Balmain has officially announced Antonin Tron as its new creative director, marking a fresh chapter for the iconic Parisian maison. Known for founding his own label Atlein in 2016, Tron will present his debut collection for Balmain in March 2026, for the autumn-winter season.

He succeeds Olivier Rousteing, who stepped down earlier this month after a remarkable 14-year tenure that reshaped the brand’s global identity. In a statement, Tron expressed his gratitude: “I wish to thank Olivier Rousteing for building Balmain into the global brand it is today. The house represents savoir-faire, culture, sensuality, and elegance — fashion that is radiant, precise, and bold.”

A graduate of Antwerp’s Royal Academy of Fine Arts, where he studied alongside Demna and Glenn Martens, Tron previously worked at Louis Vuitton, Givenchy, Balenciaga, and Saint Laurent before establishing his own voice through Atlein. His approach to design — centred on movement, draping, and materiality — aligns seamlessly with Pierre Balmain’s original belief that dressmaking is the architecture of motion.

Tron’s career has been defined by his mastery of craftsmanship and sculptural tailoring. In 2018, he won the ANDAM First Collections Prize, and in 2024 he collaborated with Kylie Jenner’s label Khy on a sultry, dress-focused collection that captured mainstream attention.

From Mayhoola, Balmain’s Qatari parent company — which also owns Valentino and Pal Zileri — chairman Rachid Mohamed Rachid praised Tron’s appointment, noting that his “artistic sensitivity and respect for craftsmanship” will bring renewed energy to the brand. Matteo Sgarbossa, Balmain’s CEO, added that Tron’s vision represents “a natural continuation of Pierre Balmain’s founding values, where elegance, architecture, and emotion are interwoven.”

At 41, Tron joins a new wave of creative directors reshaping the global fashion landscape, alongside figures such as Maria Grazia Chiuri at Fendi, Grace Wales Bonner at Hermès, Rachel Scott at Proenza Schouler, and Jaden Smith at Christian Louboutin Men’s.

Meanwhile, Olivier Rousteing’s legacy remains one of the most transformative in modern fashion. Under his direction, Balmain doubled its revenue since 2016, with accessories now accounting for nearly 30 percent of the business. As Tron steps in, his challenge is to build on that success — blending tradition and innovation to lead Balmain into a future defined by creativity, modernity, and timeless sophistication.
