Clayface leads the US box office with $24 million, while A24’s You Can See Everything becomes the weekend’s biggest cinematic surprise.

The DC Studios universe is back in the spotlight following the release of ‘Clayface‘, the new horror film centred on one of the most unsettling characters in comic-book history. The Warner Bros. production has claimed the top spot at the North American box office, earning $24 million during its opening weekend across 3,458 cinemas.

Directed by James Watkins, the film takes a different approach to the superhero genre. Moving away from traditional big-budget blockbusters, the production explores body horror, combining psychological elements with a dark and disturbing aesthetic.

With a production budget of $44 million, the film represents a relatively modest investment for the genre. Its international release has also contributed to its performance, generating $19 million across 76 markets and bringing its worldwide opening total to $43 million.

Audiences have responded positively to the debut, with the film receiving an A- CinemaScore, an encouraging result for an adult-rated horror production.

However, the weekend’s biggest surprise has come from A24 and its documentary You Can See Everything, directed by Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim.

The production secured second place with $19.5 million, marking an unusual achievement for a documentary in the commercial cinema market.

During its second week in cinemas, the film expanded its release to 2,655 screens, compared with the 855 venues included in its initial launch. It also recorded a 28% increase in its weekly box-office takings, bringing its cumulative US earnings to $45.1 million.

The success highlights A24’s ability to attract audiences with productions that challenge Hollywood’s conventional formulas.

In third place is Wildwood, the new stop-motion animated film from Laika Studios, directed by Travis Knight. Its debut exceeded initial projections, earning $11 million across 2,718 cinemas.

Meanwhile, ‘Street Fighter‘, distributed by Paramount, takes fourth place with $8.6 million, while Wicker, acquired by Black Bear following its appearance at the Sundance Film Festival, completes the top five with $5.75 million.
