David Koma, the Georgian designer, has been named the new creative director of Blumarine, bringing his bold and contemporary vision.

David Koma, the designer born in Georgia and known for his bold and sculptural designs, has been appointed the new creative director of Blumarine. Koma, who launched his own fashion house in London in 2009 after graduating from Central Saint Martins, has been a prominent figure at London Fashion Week, recognized for his dramatic and innovative silhouettes.

Koma takes over from Walter Chiapponi, who had a brief tenure following Nicola Brognano. Brognano, known for rejuvenating Blumarine with a 2000s-inspired aesthetic, led the brand for four years before his departure in 2023. Chiapponi took the reins that same year but stepped down after the fall/winter 2024 season, paving the way for Koma to bring his vision to the prestigious Italian house.

In his new role, Koma is excited to infuse Blumarine with his contemporary perspective while honoring its legacy. “Blumarine embodies a unique combination of sensuality, timeless glamour, and elegance that I have always admired, and it is an honor to write the next chapter in the brand’s illustrious history. I am excited to celebrate Blumarine’s rich creative heritage while infusing it with my own modern vision,” Koma shared.

Marco Marchi, sole director of Exelite, Blumarine’s parent company, expressed his confidence in Koma’s appointment, stating: “David Koma’s style captivated me from the start. I am confident that David will perfectly interpret Blumarine’s codes, thanks to his vision and stylistic sensitivity, characterized by overwhelming femininity.”

Koma’s debut collection for Blumarine will be the Pre-Fall 2025 line, marking the beginning of his transformative journey with the brand. Fashion enthusiasts and industry insiders eagerly await to see how Koma will redefine and elevate Blumarine’s creative direction.
