Fendi makes its debut at Pitti Uomo with its Spring 2024 men’s collection.

Yesterday’s Fendi show was divided into two moments, showcasing the house’s latest men’s clothing collection and the new leather goods factory. Before the runway, they took a small tour of the factory while the entire staff pretended to be at work.

Silvia Venturini Fendi said, “This is where our work intersects with our sense of family. Sometimes, when a collection is approaching, we ask our craftsmen to work tirelessly as we develop prototypes and make last-minute changes, and everyone is committed. In fashion, you often hear about the designer and the brand, but to be fully transparent, you should be able to know who manufactures the items and under what conditions. That’s what we want to do today.”

The collection we saw inevitably revolved around their work, the craftsmanship. Workwear garments with sewn and hammer loops were replicated in leather or heavy drill. Work aprons and tool belts, one fully equipped with a set of traditional leather work tools, were designed into skirts.

Many of the pieces were dyed using natural dyes. For example, the mesh vests and dresses were colored with nettle. Some tailoring pieces were embedded with embossed jacquard representations of the flowers that surrounded the factory.

And to reflect that each new bag design is prototyped on sailcloth-like scrim paper, Fendi said, the bronzed fabric in the first two looks and some later ones were made from a paper blend. There were also pieces in plant-based materials, including a series of jacquards with the F logo in indigo and undyed denim.
