Harry Styles was involved in an altercation with a man seeking his autograph in New York. Now, the individual involved has explained what really happened.
Harry Styles has found himself at the centre of an unexpected controversy in New York. The British singer was filmed on Wednesday, 21 October, during a tense confrontation with a man who was following him down the street in an attempt to obtain an autograph. The footage, published by TMZ, quickly went viral, sparking widespread discussion about the artist’s reaction. However, the man involved has now decided to share his side of the story and take full responsibility for the incident.
The encounter took place in New York’s Lower East Side neighbourhood while Styles was walking through the city during his concert residency at Madison Square Garden. In the video, a man carrying a copy of the album Fine Line can be seen repeatedly attempting to approach the singer and continuing to follow him despite Styles trying to walk away. The situation eventually escalates into a verbal exchange, prompting a third person to intervene and defuse the tension.
The man involved has been identified as Giovanni, a well-known autograph collector who regularly shares videos of his encounters with celebrities on social media. After several media outlets suggested that Harry Styles had lost his temper, Giovanni published a statement on Instagram to challenge that version of events.
“Harry didn’t lose his temper. I did. He remained calm and even helped me calm down,” Giovanni explained, acknowledging that his behaviour had been inappropriate.
He also recalled knowing the singer since 2012, when he obtained his first autograph from him, and insisted that Styles had always treated him kindly.
“I was having a bad day and behaved inappropriately. I take full responsibility and sincerely apologise to Harry,” he added.
The controversy comes as the former One Direction member continues his 30-show residency in New York. In fact, just one day before the incident, the singer had been photographed signing autographs for fans during a New York Knicks basketball game.
Although Harry Styles has not publicly commented on the incident, Giovanni’s statement has shifted the narrative surrounding a controversy that initially focused on the singer’s reaction in front of the cameras.
