Singer and actress Hilary Duff performed her new single ‘Roommates’ on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’ and spoke about her musical comeback.
Hilary Duff delivered one of the most talked-about moments on American late-night television following her appearance on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’, where she offered an intimate performance of her new single ‘Roommates’ while reflecting on some of the most memorable chapters of her career.
During the programme, the star of ‘The Lizzie McGuire Show’ performed the song on a stage designed to resemble a bedroom, accompanied by a live band. The minimalist aesthetic of the set created a cinematic atmosphere for the television performance, reinforcing the emotional tone of the track.
The single ‘Roommates’ is part of her new album ‘Luck …or Something’, Hilary Duff’s first studio record since ‘Breathe In. Breathe Out.’, released in 2015. The song was written by the artist alongside her husband, musician Matthew Koma, and songwriter Brian Phillips, and explores the emotional distance that can emerge in a relationship when the initial spark begins to fade.
During her interview with Jimmy Fallon, the actress also spoke about her ‘Small Rooms, Big Nerves Tour’, which began on 19 January to accompany the release of the album. Duff revealed that her children have become some of her most enthusiastic fans. “They love my music. It’s really sweet,” she said during the conversation.
The host also took the opportunity to revisit the cultural impact of Lizzie McGuire, asking the artist who her childhood idols had been. Duff answered without hesitation: the Olsen twins. The singer recalled being obsessed with their films and even meeting them at Aaron Carter’s birthday party, a moment she described as surreal.
The appearance also featured one of the programme’s signature games, ‘Sip and Sing’, in which guests must attempt to sing songs while holding water in their mouths. Hilary Duff tried to perform ‘Ironic’ by Alanis Morissette, while Jimmy Fallon took on ‘Watermelon Sugar’ by Harry Styles.
