Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco turn their love story into music with I Said I Love You First.

Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco have made their deepest connection public through a new musical project that, more than just an album, serves as an emotional chronicle of their love story. I Said I Love You First, released under the SMG Music, Friends Keep Secrets, and Interscope Records labels, marks the couple’s first collaborative record.

The album, consisting of 15 songs, emerged from a shared creative process that, according to an official statement, happened organically “as a direct result of the comfort they felt working together.” Its release coincides with a particularly significant stage in their lives: the couple announced their engagement at the end of last year.

A Music Video That Looks to the Past

The release is accompanied by the music video for the track Younger and Hotter Than Me, a melancholic and cinematic piece starring Gomez. Shot on a studio set, the video shows the artist wandering through empty stages, immersed in reflection on a childhood shaped by fame.

“When you’re young and a star, and you’re thrown into this whirlwind of being the centre of attention for so many people, there comes a time when the world finds new things to admire,” Blanco said in a behind-the-scenes interview before the premiere.
“You find yourself in a sort of limbo. Either you move on to the next chapter of your life, or you fade into obscurity. It’s a lot of pressure for someone so young.”

Gomez, for her part, explained that Younger and Hotter Than Me can be interpreted in multiple ways:

“It reflects everything I’ve felt before. I’m not good at parties, I’m socially awkward. I always end up sitting in a corner, talking to the one person who’s alone. I’ve never really felt like I fit in.”

Notable Collaborations and Personal Lyrics

The album also includes the previously released singles Scared of Loving You (co-written with Finneas), Call Me When You Break Up featuring Gracie Abrams, and Sunset Blvd. Among the standout credits is Charli XCX, who co-wrote Bluest Flame, the eighth track on the album. This collaboration is no coincidence—Gomez and Blanco previously worked with the British artist a decade ago on the hit Same Old Love.

“Charli has an incredible way of placing you in a precise atmosphere from the very first second,” Blanco said in an interview for Spotify Countdown To. “It was amazing to reunite with her after so many years.”

A Testament in Music

I Said I Love You First is not just a modern, emotional pop album—it also represents Selena Gomez’s most vulnerable and authentic moment in her recent career. Each song serves as a piece of the couple’s emotional puzzle, revealing fears, euphoria, doubts, and shared intimacy.

The album is now available on platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and more. You can watch the music video for Younger and Hotter Than Me below.
