Iris Apfel’s collection arrives at Christie’s: over 200 pieces of her unique style, from jewellery and fashion to furniture, are being auctioned to honour her legacy.
The iconic Iris Apfel, renowned for her bold and colourful style, will be honoured with a special auction hosted by Christie’s. From 28 January to 13 February, over 200 pieces from her personal collection will be available for online bidding, with proceeds going to a charitable cause.
Among the standout items are turquoise jewellery, a vibrant Carolina Herrera ensemble, 18 pairs of her iconic glasses, and a quirky ostrich-shaped bar affectionately nicknamed ‘Gussy’, valued between $6,000 and $8,000. The auction also features artworks, furniture, and fashion accessories that reflect Apfel’s maximalist and eclectic style.

Apfel, who passed away at the age of 102 in 2024, left behind a legacy that transcends fashion. She founded the textile company Old World Weavers and contributed to nine White House restoration projects. Her philosophy of “more is more” made her an influential figure in fashion, even into her centenary, collaborating with brands such as H&M, Zenni, and Dior.
The auction, titled ‘Unapologetically Iris,’ is a tribute to her fearless spirit, love of colour, and ability to inspire authenticity. “The worst fashion faux pas is looking in the mirror and seeing someone else,” Apfel famously said, reminding us of the importance of individuality.
