Jacob Elordi has opened up about Nate’s devastating death in ‘Euphoria’, surprising fans with an unexpected reaction to filming the disturbing scene: “It was peaceful”.
- Warning: spoilers ahead. Jacob Elordi has revealed that filming one of the darkest moments in ‘Euphoria’ turned out to be unexpectedly comforting.
Season three of the HBO drama continues to dominate conversation, particularly after its penultimate episode delivered the shocking death of Nate Jacobs, one of the series’ most controversial and psychologically complex characters. Yet while audiences were left stunned by the brutality of Nate’s ending, Jacob Elordi himself has admitted he genuinely enjoyed filming the sequence.
In behind-the-scenes footage released following the episode, the Australian actor reflected on the experience of shooting the disturbing moment in which Nate is buried alive inside a makeshift coffin after being kidnapped by criminal businessmen connected to a multi-million-dollar debt.
“My shoulders touched both sides and I couldn’t move my arms,” Elordi explained, describing the confined setup. “They shut the lid, screwed it closed and everything went dark.” But what came next surprised even longtime fans of the actor. “Honestly, it was actually quite nice. It was pretty peaceful in there,” he admitted.
The sequence becomes even more unsettling when a snake enters through the coffin’s ventilation pipe and ultimately causes Nate’s death. Although viewers saw what appeared to be a deadly rattlesnake on screen, production instead used a real boa constrictor, later altered visually to heighten the scene’s menace.
According to Elordi, filming alongside the reptile proved far less terrifying than audiences might imagine. “He was very affectionate,” the actor joked, recalling how the snake remained calm throughout filming. “He just curled up next to me and honestly, he was lovely.” Elordi even admitted the animal appeared so relaxed that production occasionally had to encourage movement for the camera.
Series creator Sam Levinson reportedly praised the actor’s commitment during the technically demanding shoot, while Elordi himself reflected on Nate’s brutal ending with surprising humour and acceptance.
“Being trapped in that box, dirt falling on top of you and a snake coming through the pipe… it’s actually a brilliant way to go,” he said. Reflecting on Nate’s complicated arc, Elordi added: “Nate is someone who’s made a lot of terrible choices and done some very dark things. It feels right seeing everything finally come to this point.”
For a character defined by violence, manipulation and emotional chaos, Nate’s ending marks one of ‘Euphoria’’s bleakest turning points — and, according to Jacob Elordi, one that turned out to be far more comfortable than anyone expected.
