Kim Kardashian Adopts Equestrian Style with a Vintage Phoebe Philo for Céline Piece, Dazzling with Her Personal Modern Touch

Appreciating equestrian fashion seems to run in the Kardashian-Jenner family genes. However, unlike her younger sister Kendall Jenner—who rode a horse in a fashion show in Paris this week—Kim Kardashian‘s take on this trend focuses more on archival fashion than the physical act of riding. Over the weekend, Kardashian had fun with an iconic piece from one of fashion’s favorite cult designers.

The Skims founder donned a vintage top from Phoebe Philo’s Pre-Fall 2011 collection for Céline (back when the French brand still had the accent on the “é” in its name). Kardashian’s sleeveless piece had a fairly simple silhouette, with its gradient colors taking center stage. The top was designed in a multicolored fabric that seemed to mimic the appearance of a horse’s back (the term used for the animal’s body for those unfamiliar with equestrian lingo). While Philo paired the piece with blue cigarette pants in her 2011 collection, Kardashian, true to her style, wore it only with nude tights.

Kardashian continued to inject her signature flair into her Céline find. She revisited her fascination with transparent footwear by sporting PVC heels and completed the look with a striking bracelet and tousled platinum hair. Phoebe Philo, who led Céline from 2008 until 2017, now designs for her eponymous brand launched late last year. However, “Philophiles” (the affectionate term for Philo’s devoted followers, famous for their appreciation of her privacy) still hold a special place in their hearts for Céline during Philo’s tenure.

When Hedi Slimane, the current creative director of the brand, dropped the accent from “Céline” after his appointment, prices for Philo’s designs on luxury resale sites reportedly surged by up to 30 percent. However, the purchase price of Kardashian’s top has not been disclosed.

The comments section on Kardashian’s Instagram post was mostly bewildered by the business mogul’s fashion choice. “Did you get dressed in the dark?” asked one user. Another harshly commented, “If this were my only outfit option, I’d rather not go out,” while others drew comparisons to the style of Kanye West’s new wife, Bianca Censori. Do these people know nothing about Phoebe Philo’s Céline?
