‘Always Lalisa’ will make its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival and follow LISA through independence, music, acting and global expansion.
LISA is ready to reveal one of the most important chapters of her career in ‘Always Lalisa’, the new documentary produced by Sony Music Vision that will make its world premiere at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival. Directed by Sue Kim, the film will form part of the festival’s Gala programme, which runs from 10 to 20 September, and promises to offer an intimate look at a year of personal and professional transformation away from BLACKPINK.
The 97-minute documentary focuses on a very specific period in the Thai artist’s life. For the first time since childhood, LISA steps away from the structure of BLACKPINK to face a year of independence. That starting point makes ‘Always Lalisa’ much more than a music chronicle: it becomes the portrait of an artist forced to make fundamental decisions about her career, her public identity, her creative ambition and her private life.
The film builds its narrative tension around a clear deadline: LISA’s return to BLACKPINK. That comeback works as the documentary’s emotional horizon, allowing the story to unfold around change, pressure and the need to find her own voice before rejoining the group that turned her into a global phenomenon. During that period, the artist does not only explore a solo career, but also new paths in acting, business and brand-building.
‘Always Lalisa’ follows the singer after her contract period with YG and the creation of her own entertainment company, LLOUD, in 2024. That year became key to understanding her international expansion. LISA filmed the third season of HBO’s ‘The White Lotus’ in Thailand between February and August, taking a decisive step into acting. At the same time, she released songs such as ‘Rockstar’, ‘New Woman’ with Rosalía, and ‘Moonlit Floor’, consolidating a more autonomous and global musical identity.
Her public presence also intensified during that stage. The artist appeared at the MTV Video Music Awards, the Global Citizen Festival and the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, strengthening her profile as a cultural figure able to move between music, fashion, entertainment and performance. The documentary promises to place those milestones within a more emotional narrative, showing not only the shine of achievement, but also the demand involved in sustaining it.
In 2025, LISA’s solo activity accelerated even further. The artist released her solo album while remaining tied to BLACKPINK’s touring schedule, a duality that reflects the central point of her current career: growing individually without breaking the bond with the group. That same year, she celebrated the premiere of ‘The White Lotus’, marking her acting debut in the HBO series, appeared at the Met Gala and performed a solo set at Coachella.
LISA also signed with talent agency WME and joined the cast of the action film ‘TYGO’, alongside Don Lee and Lee Jin-wook. These moves consolidated a clear strategy: transforming musical success into a multidisciplinary career with a presence in Hollywood, fashion, global stages and the audiovisual industry.
The following year added new milestones to that construction. LISA performed ‘Goals’ with Brazilian singer Anitta and Nigerian artist Rema during the opening ceremony of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, becoming the first female K-pop artist and the first Thai artist to take part on that stage. She also joined the 2026 Met Gala host committee, becoming the first K-pop artist to assume that role, and presented at the 2026 Golden Globes.
