Louis Vuitton Names ‘Squid Game’ Actor Gong Yoo as Ambassador, Strengthening its Ties with South Korean Culture and the Luxury Market.
Known for his roles in ‘Squid Game’ and ‘Train to Busan,’ the acclaimed actor Gong Yoo joins the growing roster of Louis Vuitton’s Hallyu Wave spokespeople. The brand, owned by LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, continues to strengthen its alliance with South Korea, a vibrant and expanding luxury market.
Gong Yoo, whose birth name is Gong Ji-cheol, is no stranger to the fashion house. In 2017, he starred in ads for the LV Tambour Horizon watch and attended the opening of the Louis Vuitton Maison Seoul boutique in 2019. Just last week, he was present at the brand’s menswear show in Paris, designed by Pharrell Williams.
At 44, Gong has been praised for the depth and diversity of his roles over two decades. His breakthrough came in the 2007 television drama ‘Coffee Prince,’ and he has gained recognition for his performances in ‘Train to Busan’ and the Netflix sci-fi series ‘The Silent Sea.’ This year, he will return as The Salesman in the second season of ‘Squid Game.’

Louis Vuitton highlighted that Gong’s philanthropic activities also make him a fitting ambassador for the house. Since 2013, he has been a Special Representative for UNICEF in South Korea and has publicly advocated for mental health. “Gong Yoo’s efforts to raise awareness on environmental and mental health issues resonate with the maison’s commitment to creating a better future,” Louis Vuitton said in a statement.
