Over 300 iconic pieces by the visionary Martin Margiela will be auctioned in January, unveiling a design legacy that defined an era in avant-garde fashion.
An unprecedented collection of early designs by Martin Margiela is set to be auctioned in Paris on 27th January, coinciding with Haute Couture Week. This collection belongs to Angela and Elena Picozzi, daughters of Italian designer Graziella Picozzi, and features over 300 lots, including garments, sketches, and other items. Auction houses Kerry Taylor and Maurice Auction have announced it as the largest single-owner sale of Margiela pieces to date.
Highlights include suits with cigarette shoulder pads, trousers with ruffle corsets, painted canvas jackets, an ensemble with a crinoline bag, and transparent vinyl tops from the Spring/Summer 1990 collection. Other standout items include an Autumn/Winter 1991 curtain skirt and priestly cassocks from Autumn/Winter 1992.

Angela and Elena Picozzi stated in a release: “We always regarded these items as an important part of fashion history that needed to be preserved. Over time, we recognised the value of enhancing, studying, and narrating Martin’s talent and vision. That is why we are selling them today.”
Since his retirement in 2009, the enigmatic designer’s creations have appeared in various auctions. This auction presents a unique opportunity for collectors and fashion enthusiasts to acquire iconic pieces from Martin Margiela’s early years, whose innovative and avant-garde approach has left an indelible mark on the fashion industry.
