Accompanied by dramatic piano music in the background, Marni presented a show inspired by fantasy, creativity, and eccentricity at Milan Fashion Week.
On the first day of Milan Fashion Week, Marni began its show in a dimly lit room, from which the ensembles gradually emerged from the darkness. In his new collection, creative director Francesco Risso combined extravagantly voluminous skirts with more classic garments, like blazers.
When it came to inspiration, the designer says he remained true to his usual abstract expressionist tendencies. As in other shows, this one was inspired by a poem: “The white rabbit runs, silencing the stillness of the forest. The silence breaks through a void, the strange moon rises, rippling and bleeding pink until the darkness disappears.”
Accessories played a major role in the collection, particularly the Napoleonic and sailor-style hats that crowned most of the looks, adding a playful and picturesque air. Other standout accessories turned the outfits into unique and original proposals, including oversized lapels, floral neckpieces, feather boas, and mermaid hemlines. Additionally, the necks were decorated with voluminous bows.
Floral prints also reigned supreme in the collection, both in dresses and suits, alongside artistic and polka-dot prints. Textures were heavily played with, incorporating materials like latex and leather into several garments. Finally, the looks were also characterized by the bold makeup worn by the models, which added to the overall eccentricity of the collection.
Models such as Paloma Elsesser, Eva Herzigová, and Leon Dame also took part in the show, which ended with the final looks bursting in a sea of sparkles, featuring many distinctive deconstructed embellishments and details.
