Marvel’s new X-Men cast brings together Sadie Sink, Kit Connor, Adam Driver and a new generation of stars for the MCU reboot.

After years of speculation about how the mutants would finally take centre stage in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the future of the X-Men is beginning to take shape. Marvel has assembled a new generation of actors to reinvent some of the most recognisable characters in comic-book history, with Sadie Sink, Kit Connor, Christopher Abbott, Samara Weaving, Inde Navarrette, Maya Boyd and Adam Driver among the names attached to the highly anticipated reboot.

The new X-Men film, unveiled at D23 2026, is currently scheduled to arrive in cinemas on 5 May 2028. Behind the camera will be Jake Schreier, the filmmaker who directed Thunderbolts, giving him responsibility for opening what could become one of the most important new chapters in the MCU.

At the centre of that transformation is Sadie Sink as Jean Grey. The actress, internationally recognised for playing Max Mayfield in Stranger Things, is taking on one of Marvel’s most powerful and complicated superheroes.

Jean possesses extraordinary telepathic and telekinetic abilities, but her importance extends far beyond her powers. Throughout the comics, she has occupied a central position within the X-Men and has been closely connected with the legendary Phoenix Force, a storyline that has previously played a major role in cinematic adaptations of the characters.

Sink also has an advantage over several of her new co-stars: her version of Jean Grey has already entered the MCU through Spider-Man: Brand New Day, establishing an early connection between the mutants and Marvel’s wider cinematic universe.

Alongside her will be Kit Connor as Cyclops, otherwise known as Scott Summers. Connor became an international star through Netflix’s Heartstopper, where his portrayal of Nick Nelson transformed him into one of the most prominent young British actors of his generation. He later expanded his career with his Broadway appearance in Romeo + Juliet.

Cyclops represents a considerable step into blockbuster territory. Known for the devastating optic blasts he controls through his distinctive visor, Scott Summers has traditionally served as one of the X-Men’s principal field leaders. His complicated romantic relationship with Jean Grey is also one of the defining emotional threads of the comics, making the chemistry between Connor and Sink particularly significant.

Another major challenge will fall to Christopher Abbott, who has been cast as Professor Charles Xavier. The actor follows two enormously recognisable interpretations of Professor X, previously played by Patrick Stewart and James McAvoy.

Abbott, whose credits include Girls, Catch-22 and Poor Things, will now portray the powerful telepath responsible for founding the X-Men. Xavier’s belief that humans and mutants can coexist peacefully has traditionally provided the philosophical foundation of the franchise, frequently placing him in conflict with characters who have a radically different vision for mutant survival.

The reboot is also introducing Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, one of the most fascinating figures in X-Men mythology. The Australian actress, known for Ready or Not and The Babysitter, will become the glamorous and formidable mutant also known as the White Queen.

Emma Frost combines formidable telepathy with the ability to transform her body into an extremely durable diamond form. More importantly, her unpredictable loyalties could give Marvel considerable narrative freedom. Initially associated with the Hellfire Club and positioned against the X-Men, Emma eventually became an ally, teacher and major leader within the mutant community.

Inde Navarrette is meanwhile taking on Rogue, another character with enormous popularity among fans. Following appearances in 13 Reasons Why and Superman & Lois, Navarrette attracted greater attention with her performance in the 2026 horror film Obsession.

Rogue possesses one of the most dramatic powers in the Marvel universe: physical contact can allow her to absorb another person’s memories, abilities and powers. That gift is also a curse, complicating intimacy and making her personal relationships particularly important to the character.

A newer face will inherit another legendary role. Maya Boyd has been cast as Storm, taking over a character famously portrayed by Halle Berry in the earlier X-Men films. Ororo Munroe can manipulate the weather, controlling wind, rain, storms and lightning on an extraordinary scale.

Yet Storm has always been far more than her spectacular abilities. She is one of the team’s most respected members and has repeatedly emerged as a leader, making Boyd’s casting particularly important for the long-term direction of Marvel’s mutants.

The biggest surprise, however, may be the arrival of Adam Driver as Mister Sinister. The two-time Oscar nominee and former Star Wars star will portray Nathaniel Essex, the brilliant and deeply dangerous geneticist whose obsession with mutation has made him one of the X-Men’s most enduring enemies.

Unlike Magneto, who has already dominated several generations of X-Men films, Mister Sinister has never received a fully developed big-screen interpretation. That gives Driver the opportunity to introduce a major villain without being directly compared with an established cinematic performance.
