Miu Miu and New Balance revive the ultra-lightweight RC150 for Spring/Summer 2027 with a deconstructed design combining sporting spirit, vibrant colours and customisable details.
The collaboration between Miu Miu and New Balance continues to evolve and, for their fifth year together, the two brands have decided to look directly to the archives. Their latest project brings back the New Balance RC150, a racing shoe originally created in the late 1990s, now completely reinterpreted through the codes of the Italian fashion house.
The model made its first appearance during Miu Miu’s Spring/Summer 2027 show in Paris, offering an early glimpse at one of the partnership’s upcoming releases. Rather than choosing one of New Balance’s best-known silhouettes, the house, creatively led by Miuccia Prada, turns its attention to an almost cult-like design that has become particularly difficult to find in its original form.

The RC150 was initially conceived as a high-performance shoe designed for road racing. Its name referenced one of its defining characteristics: the construction weighed just 150 grams. Lightness therefore became the model’s key technical feature, with the shoe originally engineered to deliver speed and freedom of movement.
Miu Miu now retains that philosophy while completely transforming its context. The new collaboration preserves the recognisable proportions of a running shoe, while introducing a deconstructed construction and materials that take it from the world of performance sport into the realm of fashion.
One of the standout features is the flexible technical mesh used across the upper. Contrasting zigzag embroidery runs over its surface, introducing a much more visible graphic element. The construction remains extremely lightweight and is paired with New Balance UltraLight technology in the sole, keeping the functional heritage of the original model firmly present.
The lacing system also moves away from the conventional appearance of a sports shoe. Interchangeable laces run through external loops before ending in loose knots near the toe. As well as reinforcing the deliberately unfinished character of the design, they allow wearers to alter its appearance and introduce an element of personalisation.

The colour palette also looks back to the late 1990s. Miu Miu and New Balance have revived shades associated with the original RC150, combining more muted tones with considerably brighter alternatives. On the Paris catwalk, one of the most striking versions paired blue with vibrant yellow, turning the ultra-lightweight silhouette into one of the collection’s strongest bursts of colour.
The decision to revive the RC150 also confirms the direction the collaboration between the two brands has taken. Rather than simply reworking instantly recognisable models, Miu Miu continues to explore the New Balance sports archive, uncovering silhouettes capable of taking on an entirely different meaning when transported into a luxury fashion context.
