Nicolas Cage reprises his role as Yuri Orlov in ‘Lords of War’, the crime thriller sequel set to hit cinemas in January 2027.
Nicolas Cage is returning to one of the most iconic roles of his career. More than two decades after the release of ‘Lord of War’ (2005), the American actor is set to reprise his role as arms dealer Yuri Orlov in ‘Lords of War’, a sequel that promises to recapture the tension, ambition and moral conflicts that made the original film a landmark in crime cinema.
Distributor Vertical has unveiled the first official trailer for ‘Lords of War’, offering a glimpse into the new story, which sees Cage star opposite Bill Skarsgård as Anton, Orlov’s estranged, illegitimate son. His arrival introduces a dangerous family rivalry at the heart of the international arms trade.
The story begins when Yuri discovers the existence of Anton, a man who has built his own reputation as a ruthless mercenary mastermind. Far from wanting to distance himself from his father’s dark legacy, Anton is determined to surpass him by establishing a private army and profiting from geopolitical conflicts in the Middle East.
This confrontation between father and son becomes the central focus of a story driven by ambition, power and the consequences of international arms trafficking. Two generations find themselves competing for control of a business in which alliances can prove just as dangerous as enemies.
The film will once again be helmed by Andrew Niccol, who wrote and directed the original feature. The filmmaker has explained that he always believed there was much more to explore within Yuri Orlov’s character, and that this sequel offers an opportunity to introduce an adversary capable of challenging him from within his own family.
Niccol has also revealed that Anton has no intention of correcting his father’s mistakes. Instead, he is determined to take them even further, becoming a threat who could ultimately surpass the original protagonist.
The cast also includes Laura Harrier, Sylvia Hoeks and Greg Tarzan Davis, while production is being handled by Vendôme Pictures and Saturn Films. Cage will be the only member of the original cast returning for the new instalment.
