We break down actress and model Pamela Anderson’s best looks from her documentary press tour.
Many people think it could be Pamela Anderson and no one knows that better than her stylist, Rebecca Ramsay. She, who was calling from Los Angeles to talk about Anderson’s recent performance, suddenly squealed with excitement. “Now someone with this big puffy hat is walking next to me – it’s Pam!”
The stylist saw a more in depth tribute done at the 1999VMAs titled ‘Pamela, A Love Story‘. “An older woman was wearing a big pink hat and carrying a hatbox! It was amazing,” says Ramsey. There are also tributes on TikTok, where a Pamela Anderson filter with over 345 million views will give you her signature smoky eye and thin eyebrow.

Part of the desire among young people to look like they’ve been hand-ripped out of the 1990s can be traced back to Anderson. Of course, dressing as if you were from the decade before you were born has always been an attraction. But there’s a very specific kind of retro ’90s dress, somewhere between the serious elegance of Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy and the eccentric, playful cheesiness of the Spice Girls that feels initiated by Anderson herself.
“They wanted me to meet her, and I think she’s very special. I know it’s a very underused word, but she is an icon. He is a pop culture and fashion icon.”

This is a style that can encompass a short white blouse with light wash cropped denim shorts or a tight neutral nightgown with sharp kitten heels. And there is no one who has achieved it like Anderson. Her style is sexy without being overdone and elaborate without feeling complicated.
It also tends to generate the mistaken impression that being this sexy is easy. Unfortunately, that attitude is what made people think they were entitled to Anderson for decades. “I don’t think people consider her the owner of her own image. She ‘s Pamela Anderson: public property.”
Pamela Anderson was born in Ladysmith, Canada, and discovered on the Jumbotron at a Canadian soccer game BC Lions football game, wearing a Labatt . She briefly became the brewery’s spokesperson before coming to the attention of Playboy, which flew her to Los Angeles to photograph the cover of its October 1989 issue.
Later, she continued modeling for the magazine and became a Playmate. Playmate and eventually shot more covers than anyone else in the brand’s history. In his documentary, he explains that the magazine essentially worked as his agent. They managed the casting of ‘ Baywatch ‘, the movie for which many still remember her.
Everyone wanted to meet Anderson at the time, but no one more than Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee. Later that year, a homemade sex tape was stolen from the couple’s home and widely distributed. Anderson said it caused the end of her career as she knew it. Nearly two decades later, in 2022, she would have to relive the pain of people profiting from her stolen privacy with the release of Hulu’s ‘Pam and Tommy’ miniseries, a show she has refused to watch and which was made against her wishes.

What many people don’t know about Anderson is that she loves fashion, not just clothes. That’s why her most famous looks are seared into the brain of anyone who’s seen them, because she’s clearly having fun with everything she wears. Her outfits have always had an energy to them, a vibe that you can’t do yourself.
For the first look of the tour at the film’s premiere in Los Angeles, Ramsey and Anderson opted for a red Naeem Khan dress that referenced her famous ‘Baywatch‘ swimsuit. “She invented red,” Ramsey declares.

As the tour progressed, they decided to use vintage to continue to reference the past without being too direct. “Pamela was so open to vintage, which I thought was great,” Ramsey said. For his appearance on the TODAY show, she wore a sleek, polished navy blue suit that Tom Ford designed for Gucci in 1995. In fact, for the Jimmy Kimmel she went more classic with a feminine little pleated black tea dress with a sweet neckline and black pumps.

On The Howard Stern Show , Anderson wore a “sweet vintage Alaïa dress” with a similar silhouette. Anderson seemed to have studied everything to the millimeter. The looks didn’t show as much skin as those of the ’90s, but they still felt sexy, letting Anderson’ s ladylike poise shine through.

Another of her standout styles was Yohji Yamamoto’s vintage houndstooth skirt suit, worn with a McQueen blouse and gloves. What initially generated doubts, finally became a celebrity milestone.

That same kind of electric elegance was visible in her not quite vintage looks . An example of this would be Magda Butrym’s all-beige layered attire consisting of a knotted collar blouse worn with tight-fitting cream pants and a trench coat over the shoulders. Or a tight-fitting white Alexander McQueen archival dress with a turn-down collar and a striped Sergio Hudson coat that mimicked the marquee of New York‘ s Paris Theatre.

If anything, the celebrity persona, which she and Ramsey are using to create the fashion, is that of a woman who doesn’t necessarily desire change as much as control. Anderson’s appearance, after all, has always been stylish. That is why important figures in the fashion world such as Porte Jacquemus, Donatella Versace and Marco Falcioni have wanted to collaborate with her in their most recent campaigns.
