Pink appears to have responded to the wave of criticism she received after weighing in on Macklemore’s “Free Palestine” message during Ed Sheeran’s recent concerts in New Jersey. The singer has not issued a direct explanation, but a series of posts shared on Instagram has been interpreted as her response to the controversy.
The debate began after Macklemore, who was opening two of Ed Sheeran’s shows, used part of his set to publicly express his support for Palestine. His comments prompted divided reactions among concertgoers and subsequently sparked further discussion across social media.
Pink entered the conversation when she shared a post from the organisation StopAntisemitism on her Instagram Stories. The organisation criticised the rapper’s intervention and argued that fans had bought tickets to hear Sheeran perform, rather than to encounter a political message during the concert.
Although the artist did not add any comments of her own, her decision to share the post was interpreted as an endorsement of its message. The move prompted criticism from some supporters of the Palestinian cause, who also pointed out that Pink has previously used her own music and performances to express political and social views.
A day later, the singer returned to Instagram with a far more indirect response. Rather than explaining her position, she shared 10 memes and quotes centred around remaining true to your own opinions and refusing to seek everyone’s approval.
Among them were messages such as “I’m not for everyone and honestly that has saved me a lot of time” and “If they want to paint you as the villain, then pose.” She also shared another particularly defiant quote: “If my honesty offends you, imagine how much I can’t stand your bulls–t.”
