Rosie O’Donnell says she does not regret moving to Ireland after Donald Trump’s re-election and explains why she felt it was the best decision for her family.
Rosie O’Donnell has once again spoken about one of the most important decisions of her recent life: leaving the United States to settle in Ireland after Donald Trump was re-elected as president. Far from expressing any doubts, the actress and presenter says she remains convinced it was the right choice for herself and her family.
During an interview with Page Six, held around the Broadway premiere of her new show ‘Common Knowledge’, O’Donnell explained that she did not feel afraid when making the move, as she had spent a long time reflecting on the country’s political situation.
“I was not nervous because I had read Project 2025 and I knew what their plans were. I knew that, if they succeeded, we would be facing a very serious problem,” she said.
The actress explained that, faced with that scenario, she felt the most sensible thing to do was to leave temporarily.
“I knew the best thing for me was to leave until everything was resolved,” she said. “Now I think many people in the United States have woken up and understand what is happening. You can see it in how considerably his support has decreased since I left.”
Rosie O’Donnell has had a well-known public feud with Donald Trump for years. The two have clashed in the media for almost two decades, becoming one of the most recognisable rivalries in American politics and entertainment.
Despite starting a new chapter in Ireland, the performer remains fully active. As well as preparing ‘Common Knowledge’ for Broadway, she recently recalled the financial security that allowed her to leave her successful television show at one of the most important moments of her career.
She also appeared a few days ago on ‘Watch What Happens Live’, where she answered one of the questions fans ask her most often: whether she would be willing to return as a co-host on ‘The View’, the popular programme she was part of for years.
Although her departure from the United States sparked intense debate, O’Donnell insists it was a carefully considered decision made with her family’s wellbeing in mind. For now, all signs suggest that Ireland will remain her home as she continues to develop new professional projects.
