The singer and fashion designer spark engagement rumours after appearing together at the Met Gala 2026.

Sam Smith and Christian Cowan could be preparing for one of the next major celebrity weddings. According to Page Six, the British singer and the fashion designer recently became engaged after more than three years together.

The news began circulating during fashion’s biggest night, held on 4 May in New York. The pair attended the event together and, according to witnesses cited by Page Six, were overheard discussing their engagement while leaving The Mark Hotel on their way to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Sources close to the couple reportedly told the outlet that the proposal was entirely private and that the pair are currently in one of the strongest phases of their relationship.

Although Sam Smith was not seen wearing a ring on the red carpet, attention quickly turned to Christian Cowan’s hand. The designer appeared wearing a striking ring that immediately sparked speculation across social media and international media outlets. The piece, believed to be by Cartier, featured a square-cut yellow diamond set on a gold band, further fuelling engagement rumours.

Their relationship first attracted public attention in January 2023, when they were photographed together in New York looking affectionate. Since then, they have become one of the most visible couples at the intersection of music, fashion and pop culture. Over the past few years, they have attended numerous events together, including consecutive editions of the Met Gala, as well as Christian Cowan’s New York Fashion Week shows, where Sam Smith has frequently been seated front row.

Beyond the aesthetics and public appearances, the couple have built a relationship shaped by mutual support within their respective creative careers. Cowan has established himself as one of the most distinctive designers on the international fashion scene, while Sam Smith continues to expand an artistic universe increasingly connected to aesthetic freedom and personal expression.
