DreamWorks Animation announces ‘Shrek 5’ for July 2026 with Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz returning.

DreamWorks Animation has officially announced that ‘Shrek 5’ is in development, with a release date set for July 1, 2026. The original stars of ‘Shrek,’ Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz, are confirmed to return. The return of Antonio Banderas as the fearless feline Puss in Boots has not been confirmed yet.

‘Shrek 5’ will be directed by Walt Dohrn, who previously worked as a writer and artist on ‘Shrek 2’ and ‘Shrek the Third,’ and as head of story on ‘Shrek Forever After,’ where he also voiced Rumpelstiltskin. Gina Shay, returning to the franchise, will produce alongside Illumination founder Chris Meledandri, with Brad Ableson as co-director.

Murphy revealed in June that he had already begun voice recording for the film and that he will soon be working on a Donkey spinoff movie.

“We started working on [‘Shrek 5’] months ago,” Murphy told Collider. “I did that. I recorded my first act, and we’re gonna finish that up this year. ‘Shrek’ is coming out and Donkey’s got his own movie coming. We’re doing Donkey. So we’re doing a Shrek’ and we’re doing a Donkey.”
