Donald Trump surprises during a visit to Graceland by wondering if he could beat Elvis Presley in a fight, igniting debate online.
Donald Trump’s latest appearance in Memphis has made headlines — but not for political reasons. During a surprise visit to Graceland, the legendary home of Elvis Presley, the former US president delivered one of those remarks that instantly captures attention.
According to AP News, while touring the property, Trump posed a question that left those present taken aback: “Do you think I could have beaten him in a fight?” — referring to the iconic singer.
Far from being a throwaway comment, the remark quickly reignited debate across social media, where many users reacted with surprise at the comparison between the politician and one of the most influential figures in music history.
During the visit, Trump also reflected on the scale of Elvis Presley’s legacy. Considering the possibility that his own residence, Mar-a-Lago, could one day become a tourist destination in a similar way, he raised another question: “Who would be more famous than Elvis?”
The former president’s connection to the artist is not new. Over the years, he has used Elvis’s music at campaign events and has even compared himself to him on several occasions, reinforcing a symbolic link with his public image.
Before the visit, Trump had been in Memphis taking part in a roundtable on security, where he had already hinted at his intention to visit Graceland. “I love Elvis,” he said.
When asked about his favourite song, he hesitated before mentioning ‘Hurt’, one of the most emblematic tracks from the singer’s later years. “He’s got so many… there are very few I don’t like,” he added.
Beyond the anecdote, the moment once again highlights Donald Trump’s ability to generate conversation, even in contexts seemingly far removed from politics.
