Lorde is beginning a new musical chapter in New York, teasing snippets of her upcoming album and causing a stir among her fans.

Lorde has once again sent shockwaves through her fanbase. On 9 April, the Pure Heroine singer deleted all posts from her Instagram and website, signalling the start of a new musical era. That same day, she surprised fans with a TikTok video in which, while walking around New York with a decorated carabiner, she sang: “Since I was 17 I gave you everything / Now we wake from a dream, well, darling, what was that? / What was that?”

Following the release of Solar Power in 2021, fans had been eagerly awaiting a sign. And although the New Zealand artist remains tight-lipped about the details of her next album, her stroll through Manhattan set alarm bells ringing.

Excitement grew even further when Lorde posted “in the park” on her stories, encouraging followers to gather at Washington Square Park. However, the turnout far exceeded expectations, and before she could arrive, the police dispersed the crowd. Later, Lorde apologised on social media: “Omg @thepark the police are shutting us down… I’m honestly blown away by how many came. But they’re telling me you must disperse! I’m so, so sorry.”

One thing is certain: Lorde’s new era promises intensity — and major surprises.
