Anna Wintour exits Vogue USA after 37 years, making space for a new generation to shape the future of fashion media.

After nearly four decades at the helm of Vogue’s US edition, Anna Wintour is stepping down as editor-in-chief, as confirmed by several industry sources. However, she will retain her global roles as Chief Content Officer at Condé Nast and Global Editorial Director of Vogue, continuing to influence the brand’s international direction.

At 75, Wintour informed staff she is already searching for her successor. Condé Nast CEO Roger Lynch told The Wall Street Journal that she has been juggling three high-level roles since 2020 and “it’s time to give attention to those who need her”.

Wintour defined an era in publishing — from her iconic 1988 debut cover mixing couture with $50 jeans, to transforming Vogue into a pop culture authority. Yet in recent years, her leadership has faced criticism for feeling increasingly out of touch with younger audiences. As she exits her editorial post, many hope her successor will bring a younger, fresher vision aligned with today’s fashion landscape.
