Matt Smith joins the Star Wars universe as a villain in ‘Starfighter’, starring alongside Ryan Gosling and Mia Goth.

Lucasfilm has confirmed one of the most anticipated castings among fans of the saga: Matt Smith will be part of the main cast of ‘Star Wars: Starfighter’, playing one of the film’s villains. This ambitious production, directed by Shawn Levy and set for release on 28 May 2027, will also feature Ryan Gosling in the lead role and Mia Goth in another antagonistic part.

Set five years after the events of ‘The Rise of Skywalker’, the film is positioned as a standalone story within the galactic universe, introducing a completely new narrative approach. The script, penned by Jonathan Tropper, revolves around a starfighter pilot whose mission brings him face-to-face with powerful dark forces. According to sources close to the production, Gosling will portray the titular pilot, while Smith and Goth form a villainous duo with an unsettling charisma.

This will mark Matt Smith’s official debut in the franchise, following his previously rumoured role in ‘The Rise of Skywalker’, which was ultimately cut during post-production. His inclusion now takes on new weight, solidifying his long-awaited arrival in a universe that has been expecting him for years.

Filming is set to begin in September in the UK, with the cast expected to add more high-profile names. With a thrilling mix of star power and a narrative set in uncharted territory, ‘Star Wars: Starfighter’ is shaping up to be one of the major cinematic events of the year.
