After conquering Thailand, The White Lotus is planning its fourth season in France, with the glamour of the Riviera as a backdrop.
All signs suggest that The White Lotus, HBO’s anthology series created by Mike White, will return to Europe for its much-anticipated fourth instalment. According to Deadline, the new season will be set in France, although the exact hotel has yet to be confirmed. Speculation already points to the Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat, on the French Riviera, as the main location.
The choice would hardly be coincidental: since its inception, the series has maintained a close collaboration with Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, and the Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat —operated by the luxury chain— would perfectly align with the show’s signature aesthetic of sophisticated decadence.
HBO has chosen not to comment on the rumours.
Mike White had already hinted, after the conclusion of the third season set in Thailand, at his desire to change the tone of the setting: “For season four, I want to move away a bit from the visual language of waves crashing against rocks, although there’s always room for more murders at White Lotus hotels,” the creator joked.
The latest instalment, which took the franchise to Asia for the first time, blended the exoticism of Koh Samui with the urban sophistication of Bangkok, featuring a star-studded cast including Leslie Bibb, Carrie Coon, Walton Goggins, Jason Isaacs, Lalisa Manobal, Michelle Monaghan, Sam Rockwell, Natasha Rothwell, among others.
Now, with the French Riviera as a potential new epicentre of intrigue, betrayal and crimes wrapped in luxury, The White Lotus promises to continue exploring class tensions and existential absurdity with its biting style and immaculate visuals. All signs suggest that French elegance will soon be tinged with blood… once again.
