DC Studios unveils the first look at Supergirl during Super Bowl 2026, with Milly Alcock appearing as Kara Zor-El and revealing her origins on Krypton.
The Super Bowl once again proved to be Hollywood’s most coveted showcase. Amid blockbuster commercials and musical performances, DC Studios used the event’s global spotlight to debut the first teaser for ‘Supergirl‘, offering audiences their first real glimpse of Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El.
Aired on 8 February, the teaser places the story before the destruction of Krypton, presenting a reimagined take on the character’s mythology. For the first time, viewers see how Supergirl met Krypto, the iconic super-dog, when her home planet was still alive and functioning. This choice immediately signals a more expansive and emotionally grounded narrative.
Kara herself sets the tone with a line that reframes the classic origin story: “Krypton didn’t die in a day. The gods aren’t that merciful.” The teaser leans into a darker, almost mythological approach to the DC universe, moving away from a conventional hero’s introduction.
The film also establishes a clear contrast with her cousin Kal-El, Superman. “He sees the good in everyone. I see the truth,” Kara states, hinting at a protagonist who is more pragmatic, hardened and potentially morally complex.
Directed by Craig Gillespie, Supergirl will expand DC’s new cinematic universe under the leadership of Peter Safran and James Gunn. The cast includes Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, Emily Beecham and Jason Momoa, underlining the studio’s ambition for this new chapter.
Scheduled for release on 26 June 2026, the film is already shaping up to be one of the most anticipated superhero releases of the year. More than a teaser, DC’s Super Bowl reveal serves as a clear statement: this Supergirl is not defined by Superman, but by her own loss, truth and identity.
