The actress Leighton Meester offers an early glimpse into ‘Blair’, the new Gossip Girl novel set to revisit the character’s story two decades later.
The universe of ‘Gossip Girl’ is once again generating anticipation with the announcement of ‘Blair’, a new novel that will serve as a standalone sequel to the series created by Cecily von Ziegesar. This time, the story is set twenty years after the original books, revisiting Blair Waldorf at a new stage in her life. In response to the news, Leighton Meester, who portrayed the character in the television series, has already shared her first impressions.
While attending the SXSW festival, where she presented her new film ‘Basic’ alongside Ashley Park, the actress was asked about the upcoming release. Far from being disconnected from the project, Meester confirmed she had early access to the book and had already read part of it. “I think it’s good. I did read some of it.” she commented. “They sent it to me in advance… so I read like the first seven chapters.” she added, hinting at her curiosity about this new chapter for the character.
The novel ‘Blair’ will present the iconic New York socialite in her forties, exploring her return to the Upper East Side with the aim of reclaiming her place within the elite. While plot details remain under wraps, the story is expected to blend nostalgia, ambition and the signature drama that defined the original saga.
The return of Blair Waldorf is not only a strategic editorial move, but also an opportunity to reconnect with a generation that grew up with ‘Gossip Girl’, while opening the door to new readers.
Set for release in summer 2027, ‘Blair’ is poised to become one of the most talked-about titles within contemporary young adult and adult fiction. In the meantime, Leighton Meester’s remarks only heighten anticipation around this long-awaited return.
