The creator of ‘Rivals’ shares new Season 2 twists with Pink News, including a key wedding and expanded storylines.
Season 2 of ‘Rivals’ is starting to take shape — and what’s coming is anything but subtle. Jacob Tierney, creator, writer and executive producer of the series, has revealed new details in an interview with Pink News, confirming that the story will go far beyond what audiences have seen so far.
During the conversation, Tierney confirmed two major plot points that will definitely appear in the upcoming season, both inspired by ‘The Long Game’, one of the novels on which the series is based. The first is one of the most anticipated moments for fans: the wedding of Shane and Ilya. “It’s one of the most beautiful things I’ve read… of course I’m going to do it,” the creator said, making it clear that this will be central to the narrative. The scene, which may include Hayden’s children, is expected to become one of the most emotional highlights of the series.
But that’s not all. Tierney also revealed that another key focus will be the relationship between Ilya and Hayden, played by Connor Storrie and Cal Potter. According to him, their dynamic will be driven by constant humour and underlying tension, adding a fresh layer to the storyline: “That endless rivalry is very funny and very charming.”
While Season 2 will primarily explore the evolution of Shane and Ilya as a couple — a significant shift from the first season — it will also expand the narrative universe. Tierney confirmed that elements from other books in the saga will be introduced, including the possible appearance of Troy Barrett, a character from the fifth novel, ‘Role Model’.
This approach points to a more ambitious season, where the story will not only progress romantically but also deepen emotionally, with secondary relationships enriching the overall narrative.
With the script still in development, Tierney has made it clear that he wants to retain creative flexibility. However, these early confirmations have already raised expectations among fans, who are anticipating a second season that is more intense, more complex — and far more emotional.
All signs suggest that ‘Rivals’ will not only build on its success, but could also become one of the most talked-about series upon its return.
