Meryl Streep confirms her separation from Don Gummer, ending their 45-year marriage.
In the age of constant information, we often believe we know everything about the lives of celebrities. However, recent weeks of Hollywood gossip have proven otherwise. Following Jada Pinkett Smith’s surprising revelation about her separation from Will Smith seven years ago, it’s now Meryl Streep who has confirmed her separation from Don Gummer, her husband of 45 years.
The news came shortly after the couple’s 45th wedding anniversary on September 30th. Although Streep and Gummer shared a love story that began in 1978 after she was widowed by the loss of her boyfriend, John Cazale, they couldn’t make it work.
Streep’s team shared that, while they will continue to care for each other, they have decided to lead separate lives since 2017. Despite the separation, the couple shares four children and five grandchildren.
Streep, in a previous interview, offered advice that could apply to both married life and separation: “Goodwill and a willingness to compromise, and sometimes, to stay silent… There’s no roadmap for raising a family; it’s always a significant negotiation.”
This news serves as a reminder that even in the lives of celebrities, the path of love and family is often unpredictable.
