Artist Mats Gustafson’s new book in collaboration with Dior highlights the fall 2020 collection, as well as featuring the iconic “Miss Dior” dress worn by Natalie Portman in her famous campaign.
Swedish artist Mats Gustafson once again unites his talent with the iconic maison Dior in a second book celebrating the fall 2020 collection, also highlighting the iconic floral dress Natalie Portman wore in the “Miss Dior” campaign. This volume, entitled Dior by Mats Gustafson, Vol. II, explores the creative vision of Maria Grazia Chiuri through the ethereal and expressive illustrations of Gustafson, who captures the essence and movement of the garments with his signature style.

For Gustafson, each dress comes to life when worn, and this is reflected in her art, where she seeks to disassociate herself from superfluous details to focus on the purity of the garments. Through his ink and watercolor strokes, the artist creates images that reveal texture, transparency and fluidity, transforming complex elements such as lace or embroidery into almost abstract works, but full of details and emotions.

The collaboration between Gustafson and Dior dates back to 2012, when he began illustrating the collections under the direction of Raf Simons. With the arrival of Chiuri in 2016, the artist has continued to portray his feminine and powerful vision. Her style has been appreciated internationally since its inception, working with the likes of Grace Coddington for British Vogue, and participating in publications such as Vanity Fair and The New Yorker, as well as campaigns for brands such as Tiffany & Co and Yohji Yamamoto.
The new book, available from November 5, includes more than 200 illustrations accompanied by texts by Holly Brubach, highlighting the creative evolution of the house under Chiuri‘s direction. This publication follows a previous volume released in 2017 that focused on Simons’ creations, consolidating Dior‘s legacy as seen through the artistic eye of Mats Gustafson.
