Last Friday, October 18, 26-year-old Shawn Mendes delivered a heartfelt tribute to Liam Payne, former One Direction member, during his performance. The ‘Wonder’ singer took a moment to speak about the tragic news of Liam’s death, which occurred earlier in the week. After his words, he performed a song in honor of the artist.

Mendes fondly recalled his encounters with Payne, describing him as a “beautiful soul” with shining eyes. “Hearing the news was devastating,” Shawn told the audience. “It’s about mourning those we miss and also celebrating them, honoring who they were and what they left behind in the world.
