Dior has appointed Sonam Kapoor as an ambassador, reflecting its focus on the Indian market and highlighting the cultural connection between the luxury brand and India.

Dior announced Indian actress Sonam Kapoor as its new ambassador, a strategic move aligned with the brand’s ambitions in the rapidly growing Indian market. With 35 million Instagram followers, Kapoor will represent the collections of Maria Grazia Chiuri, Dior’s creative director for women’s fashion.

Kapoor, known for her bold and elegant style, is considered an influential figure in both Bollywood and fashion. Daughter of actor-producer Anil Kapoor and designer Sunita Kapoor, she has garnered recognition not only for her performances in films like ‘Neerja‘ but also for her red-carpet appearances. Dior praised its choice in a statement, commending Sonam’s boldness, grace, and elegance, qualities that the brand believes perfectly embody the Dior style.

Kapoor’s popularity extends beyond cinema. Her influence in fashion has led to collaborations with brands like L’Oréal Paris and Zoya Jewels. In September this year, her appearance at Dior’s ready-to-wear show generated a media impact of $2.7 million, according to Launchmetrics.

Dior has long shown interest in India, having presented its pre-fall 2023 collection in Mumbai, highlighting its collaboration with local Chanakya ateliers. Kapoor expressed her excitement about her new role, emphasizing her pride in being part of Dior’s story and highlighting the cultural synergy between the brand and her country.

The luxury market in India is rapidly growing, with other brands like Bulgari and Louis Vuitton also seeking partnerships with local celebrities. This collaboration with Kapoor strengthens Dior’s position in the region, capitalizing on the rising global influence of Indian stars in fashion.
