Shawn Mendes candidly discussed his sexuality during a concert, revealing that he is still in the process of discovering his true identity.
Shawn Mendes is being more open and honest about his sexuality than ever before in his career. The 26-year-old singer spoke sincerely with his audience during his ‘For Friends and Family’ tour concert on Monday, October 28, at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado.
Shawn touches on the topic of his sexuality in his new song ‘The Mountain’ and shared his thoughts while performing the song at the show.
“I started very young, I was 15,” Shawn explained. “The truth is that I didn’t have the opportunity to experience many things typical of that age and discover parts of myself.” Since he was young, people have speculated about his sexuality, something he considers unnecessary. “Sexuality is such a complex and beautiful thing; it’s hard to put it in a single box,” he added.
“It always felt like an invasion of something very personal. It’s something I am still discovering,” Shawn confessed. “Writing the song was important because I could approach it in a way that feels authentic to me.”
“The real fact is that, like everyone, I am trying to figure it out,” he concluded.
