Adam Brody opens up about the regret he has carried since proposing to Leighton Meester in 2013 and explains why he believes his marriage proposal was not romantic enough.

Adam Brody has surprised fans by speaking candidly about one of the most significant moments in his romantic life: his marriage proposal to Leighton Meester. Although the couple are known for keeping their relationship largely out of the spotlight, the actor has admitted that he still regrets the way he proposed to his wife, whom he married just a few months after their engagement in 2013.

The 46-year-old Nobody Wants This star made the confession during an appearance on the Armchair Expert podcast, hosted by Dax Shepard, alongside some of his co-stars. During the conversation, the actors began reminiscing about their respective marriage proposals, prompting Brody to share a personal anecdote.

As he explained, his proposal was far from the romantic moment many people imagine when thinking about getting engaged. “It wasn’t as romantic as it should have been,” he admitted, although he preferred to keep the details of what happened to himself.

The actor revealed that the only genuinely romantic aspect was how quickly he decided to take the next step. Adam Brody and Leighton Meester got engaged in 2013, relatively early in their relationship, and tied the knot just a few months later.

“The only romantic thing about it was the speed. I proposed pretty early on in our relationship and we got married quickly. But apart from that, it was all very ordinary,” he explained during the interview.

Over the years, Brody has come to realise that a marriage proposal matters not only because of what it represents in the moment, but also because it becomes a story the couple will remember and retell for the rest of their lives.

For that reason, the actor wanted to offer some advice to anyone considering getting engaged: make the marriage proposal special, not just for the occasion itself, but also for the memory that will stay with them for years to come.

“I do regret it a little. She deserved more,” he confessed, referring to Leighton Meester, internationally recognised for her portrayal of Blair Waldorf in Gossip Girl.

During the conversation, Dax Shepard also asked whether Brody’s personality made him somewhat uncomfortable with grand romantic gestures, something the actor readily acknowledged.
