Anne Hathaway speaks for the first time about her third pregnancy and admits the news left her completely surprised.
Anne Hathaway is going through one of the most special stages of her personal and professional life. The Oscar-winning actress and one of Hollywood’s most beloved performers has spoken naturally about her third pregnancy after announcing just a month ago that she is expecting another child with her husband, Adam Shulman.
The star of ‘The Odyssey’ is currently immersed in the promotion of her new film, but all eyes have also been on her pregnancy. In recent weeks, the actress has appeared at different events proudly showing off her baby bump, confirming that she is experiencing this moment with excitement, humour and a certain sense of disbelief.
During an interview on ‘Late Night with Seth Meyers’, Anne Hathaway admitted that both she and her husband were completely surprised to discover that they were going to become parents for the third time. Although the couple did not hide the fact that the possibility was on the table, the news affected them more than expected.
“It’s amazing. I mean, we knew what we were doing, but we were so shocked it worked,” the actress said with a laugh during her conversation with Seth Meyers. The comment sparked complicity from the host and the audience, especially because of the honest and spontaneous way in which Hathaway approached such an intimate piece of news.
The actress went on to explain that the surprise did not come from a lack of planning, but from the way everything happened. “We knew, we knew, yes. But no, we were just… so shocked it went this way,” she added. She then revealed that, at home, they have already found a very special way of referring to the baby on the way: “We’re calling this one our buzzer-beater.”
The expression, widely used in basketball to describe a decisive last-second shot, perfectly sums up the tone with which Anne Hathaway is experiencing this new chapter: with emotion, humour and a mix of surprise and gratitude. For the actress, this third child arrives at a moment of family maturity, after more than a decade of marriage to Adam Shulman.
The couple, who have been married for 14 years, already share two sons: Jonathan, 10, and Jack, 6. For now, Hathaway has not publicly revealed whether the baby is a boy or a girl, keeping that detail within her private sphere. Even so, her comments have offered a little more insight into how she is facing the arrival of a new member of the family.
During the interview, Seth Meyers, who is also a father of three, shared his own experience when Hathaway asked him for advice. The presenter explained that, in some way, everything ends up running on “autopilot”. According to him, when three children arrive, family life changes completely and there is far less room to control every detail.
“Weirdly, it just kind of goes on autopilot. It turns out once there are three, there’s not much you can do except watch. It goes from being terrifying to becoming a show you binge-watch,” Meyers explained. Hathaway received the answer with humour and added: “Okay, perfect, because I love the channel right now. So it’s just more of that.”
The exchange once again showed one of Anne Hathaway’s most recognisable qualities in public appearances: her ability to speak about personal subjects with warmth, intelligence and lightness. Without turning her family life into a spectacle, the actress shared just enough to connect with the public and reveal the more human side of a stage that brings together motherhood, work and media exposure.
