Bella Hadid Apologizes for Controversial Adidas SL72 Campaign, Criticized for Insensitivity Towards the 1972 Munich Olympics Tragedy
Following the controversy surrounding the Adidas SL72 shoe campaign, Bella Hadid has broken her silence and addressed the issue through Instagram. In her emotional statement, Hadid expressed regret for the distress caused and offered her apologies. The campaign, launched earlier this month with a prominent display in Times Square, New York, coincided with the 52nd anniversary of the 1972 Munich Olympics, where 11 Israeli athletes and coaches were murdered by Palestinian terrorists.

The campaign received immediate criticism for its insensitivity in not mentioning the tragic events of 1972. Furthermore, Hadid’s involvement was condemned by the American Jewish Committee pro-Israel due to her known support for aid efforts for Palestinians in Gaza.
In her statement, Hadid said, “I would never consciously participate in any work related to a horrendous tragedy. I was unaware of the historical connection to the 1972 events before the campaign’s launch. I am shocked and disappointed by the lack of sensitivity.” She also added, “My team, Adidas, and I should have conducted more research.”
Hadid emphasized the need for a more thorough investigation by all parties involved and reaffirmed her stance against antisemitism: “Antisemitism has no place in the liberation of the Palestinian people.” She also stated, “I will always stand up against what I believe is unjust and promote peace over violence.”
Finally, Adidas announced that it is reviewing the campaign, and Hadid is considering legal action due to the lack of accountability.
