Carlos Alcaraz has spoken out about the abuse he receives on social media after losing matches, admitting that some messages have had a profound impact on him.

Fresh off his victory at Roland Garros, Carlos Alcaraz has raised his voice about a harsh reality that exists off the court as well: online hate. The Spanish tennis star acknowledged that, while he values the positive side of these platforms, he also finds it “hard to cope” with certain comments following a loss.

“Sometimes, when I lost in the first round and read the messages, they really affected me. It’s something I’ve learned over time: when things aren’t going well, it’s best not to look,” he confessed.

Alcaraz now joins the likes of Katie Boulter and Harriet Dart, who have also spoken out about receiving abuse and even threats after their matches. For the Murcia-born player, social media is a useful tool, but also “a double-edged sword.”

As he prepares for Wimbledon at the Queen’s tournament, Alcaraz is calling for a broader reflection on mental health and digital responsibility in elite sport.

“Some messages are really heavy. Others are even frightening. And that makes you think about a lot of things,” he concludes.
