Carlos Alcaraz debuts a bold buzz cut at the US Open 2025, explaining his decision and sparking reactions from fellow players such as Frances Tiafoe.
Carlos Alcaraz kicked off the US Open 2025 with a surprise that went far beyond the court: the 22-year-old Spaniard appeared at his opening match with a completely shaved head. The transformation caused a stir, especially since just over the weekend, during the tournament’s previews, he was still sporting his usual hairstyle.
Speaking to golfer Rory McIlroy on the practice courts, Alcaraz explained the reason behind the change: “It was tough, but I needed to start fresh,” admitted the world number one.

Not everyone was impressed by the look. American player Frances Tiafoe reacted with humour, but also a touch of critique: “It’s terrible. I mean, I guess he’s more aerodynamic now, but he needs me to recommend him a barber,” he joked in an interview with ESPN.
Between applause and playful teasing, Alcaraz’s new image has become one of the most talked-about topics of the tournament, proving that even off the court, the young champion knows how to command attention.
